With The Corner Dance Lab 2015 fast approaching, Philip Channells (Dance Integrated Australia) and Gavin Webber (The Farm) are set to bring a hub of dance, theatre and multi-media activity to the quaint historical town of Federal, which is situated in the Byron Hinterland region of northern NSW.
The Corner Dance Lab is one of Australia’s key events on the dance calender. It creates opportunities for people with different life experience and varied dance backgrounds to connect across an 8-day program of masterclasses, workshops and mentoring sessions.
Held at Jasper Corner, the creative heart of Federal, the program brings together a collective of some of the regions most recognised performing and visual artists. It attracts guest artists and participants from across Australia and abroad who work together to devise a series of performances for the local community.
Last year’s Corner Dance Lab left a huge impression on everyone that was involved. If you have the idea that dance goes beyond a series of steps or a technical exercise, then The Corner is for you! At The Corner we are all students together, learning and relearning in a beautiful environment, supporting and challenging our preconceptions with a fundamental desire to find out more about dance as a form of human expression. Gavin Webber
Artistic collaborators for The Corner in January are Phil Blackman, Sean Campbell, Philip Channells, Hsin-Ju Chiu (Raw), Ben Ely, Kate Harman, Lee-Anne Litton, Julian Louis, Kimberley McIntrye, Kellie O’Dempsey and Gavin Webber.
There are several accommodation options available in the region for interstate and international participants who will travel from as far away as Norway for this event.
