Zodiak – Uuden tanssin keskus / Center for New Dance is a progressive dance organisation in Helsinki and the most significant production house of contemporary dance in Finland. Philip Channells (Creative Director, Dance Integrated Australia) will travel to Helsinki to deliver a week-long program at Zodiak for dancers with and without disability in the Beyond Technique – searching for authenticity series.
Channells’ visit to Zodiak is part of a 10-week tour to Europe which includes directing, choreographing and facilitating various dance education projects in Trondheim (Norway), Helsinki, Kuopio and Joensuu (Finland), Istanbul (Turkey), London (UK) and Milano (Italy).
Throughout this course at Zodiak Channells focuses on inclusive dance practice for volunteer, emerging and professional artists with and without disability. He uses contemporary dance and improvisation techniques in daily workshops to inform the beginnings of creating new movement and dramaturgical material.
Zodiak – Center for New Dance enjoys a reputation for bold originality and excellence in contemporary dance.
Expressions of Interest are now open for two positions attached to the project. These include: Choreographic / Workshop Assistant Role for Professional Dancers (volunteer) and Professional Development role for Artist with disability (volunteer).
