The Beyond Technique Residency is on again! Expressions of Interest are now open for Australian and international artists wishing to attend the third annual live-in dance residency. This week-long skills development and performance-making project will take place at Bundanon Trust’s Boyd Education Centre from Sunday 1 – Sunday 8 November 2015.

Set on the late Arthur Boyd’s magnificent Riversdale property overlooking the Shoalhaven River just 2 1/2 hours south of Sydney, the Beyond Technique Residency #3 will provide up to 26 artists with different embodiment an opportunity to work intensively alongside some of Australia’s most respected dance practitioners including Ambassador to Bundanon’s Artist in Residency program, Philip Channells (Creative Director, Dance Integrated Australia), Lee-Anne Litton (Strings Attached/Legs on the Wall), composer James Brown, musician Dominic Rado (Hunter & Smoke), multimedia artist Kellie O’Dempsey and filmmaker Sam James.

Adding to the artistic line up for the Beyond Technique Residency is indigenous artist, Katina Olsen; French/UK-based dancer, Laure Bachelot, who recently worked with the highly acclaimed London theatre company, Punchdrunk; and a team of Auslan interpreters.

Now in its third consecutive year, the project is aimed at emerging, tertiary & established dancers with and without disability. This week-long program focuses on developing solo and ensemble practice which will include:

  • daily Pilates & yoga-inspired practice
  • research and development of choreographic practice inspired by the natural & architectural surrounds
  • developing solo and ensemble performance
  • discourse on contemporary dance practice
  • contact / improvisation jams
  • dance films / dance on screen.

A showing of the solo and ensemble works will be open to the public on the final afternoon/evening of the residency, which will be held on Saturday 7th November.

When:

Arrive Sunday 1st – Depart Sunday 8th November 2015.

Where:

Bundanon Trust’s Riversdale property on the NSW South Coast (near Nowra) at the Boyd Education Centre, 170 Riversdale Road, West Cambewarra NSW 2540.

Cost:

Early Bird – fully inclusive:  AU$1000 (waged or funded) / AU$900 (conc.)

General – fully inclusive:     AU$1100 (waged or funded) / AU$1000 (conc.)

A payment plan is available upon application.

NB: The fully-inclusive package includes participant’s fees, shared accommodation and meals for the entire residency period. 3 meals a day will be provided and dietary requirements and access needs can be discussed at the point of registration.

This project is accessible for participants with physical / sensory impairment and is suitable for dancers with learning difficulty. The Boyd Education Centre and accommodation is fully accessible for wheelchair users and there will be a team of Auslan interpreters available for Deaf artists.

Train – Sydney International/Domestic Airport to Bomaderry – AU$41.40 RTN (estimate)

Taxi – Bomadarry to Bundanon Trust’s Riversdale property – AU$120 (estimate)

Hire Car – all major hire car companies can be found at the Sydney airport. NB: Riversdale is a remote property 30 mins inland from Norwa.

Excursion:

Whale Watching at Jervis Bay – AU$75

This is an optional excursion on Sunday 8 November and is a highly recommended half day outing for interstate and international guests.
