Hsin-Ju Chiu

Rock Show 27 Nov 2009 (45)

Adding to an exciting line up of artistic collaborators for The Corner Dance Lab 2015, is Taiwanese-born-Melbourne-based dancer Hsin-Ju Chiu (Raw). A QUT graduate and former Dancenorth member, Hsin-Ju has worked with Gavin Webber on several occasions.

The Corner Dance Lab, held at the historic Federal School of Arts buildings, is a collaboration between Dance Integrated Australia and The Farm and was piloted in the summer of 2014 by Philip Channells and Gavin Webber.

The next installment of ‘The Corner’ will span across 8 days from 16 – 24 January 2015 and will culminate in a community performance event led by Channells & Webber with guest artists contributing to the fold. Just some of the other collaborators include sound designer/musician Ben Ely and live / multi-media artist, Kellie O’Dempsey.

In Raw’s class you will experience a combination of Chinese dance and contemporary dance.

The class begins with a series of exercises focused on abdominal training. Then the focus will shift to your individual body’s spacial awareness, self-protection, softness internally and externally. At the end, we will explore and experiment the relationship between Chinese dance and contemporary dance by using props such as ribbons and fans.

Expressions of Interest close Monday 22 December 2014.

There will be Auslan interpreters available.
