Get fit, have fun, and connect through movement!
An initiative by Dance Integrated Australia, MOVE IT Dance Fitness Fun is all about getting people moving and connecting across the Northern Rivers region. It’s a feel-good dance fitness class for ‘every’ body – any age, any gender, any level. Its high-energy, a little cheeky, and a whole lot of fun.
With classes held in Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads, Federal, Lismore, and Lennox Head, MOVE IT has become a beloved part of the local community, attracting people of all abilities and backgrounds.
It’s not your typical dance class – think disco meets ballet meets sweat-it-out fun! Each session is designed to boost physicality, strength, and flexibility in a creative, safe, and inclusive space. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to meet new people, build community connections, and make lasting friendships. You’ll sweat smile and leave feeling fabulous!

Dancers: Shar Mitchell, Lisa Sheppard, Sangeeta Lee Jones, Louise Cameron, Julie Lewis, Kate & Tiki Theobald, Yasmin Standfield, Jade Vickery, May Marr, Vanessa Lake, Philip Channells, Victoria Jeffries, Ella Scott and Bobilee Shaine
What makes MOVE IT special?
MOVE IT is for any body, any age and any background – everyone is welcome. #1 rule: just don’t be better than the teacher.
In recognition of its impact, MOVE IT was honoured with a Community Event of the Year Award at the Byron Shire Council’s Australia Day Celebrations 2022. However, in alignment with a broader stance on inclusivity and community, the team, supported by the late Nina Marzi (who’s 100 Birthday Celebration at the Byron Community Centre led to the nomination), chose to humbly decline the award. This decision was made to maintain focus on fostering community and prioritising inclusivity. The awards have since been rebranded and now take place in August.
Inclusivity first:
Its so fantastic, so much fun. The class has so much love, so silly, so sexy… I had such a great time, says Wilk, a Deaf participant.
Fun and fitness combined:
It’s the best class I’ve ever attended, shares Helen. I’ve gained strength, flexibility and so much joy!
