The VITALITY Project is a free creative dance workshop series for LGBTQ+ seniors aged 65 and over, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples aged 50 and over, and people impacted by HIV/ AIDS.
Facilitated by illustrious dance artist Philip Channells, The VITALITY Project connects seniors through social connection, fun and physical activity.
The idea for the project was inspired by a chance meeting with my new friend, Peter, who I saw wearing a striking blue, bejangled, sensible, but fun high heel shoes – ones I had noticed earlier in a shopfront window in the main street of Lismore. That moment, filled with boldness, self-expression, and pride, sparked something in me. It made me reflect on the stories of resilience, individuality, and creativity within our queer elders. I wanted to create a space that honours those people and their stories, where we can come together to explore, celebrate, and connect through movement, no matter our past experiences or abilities.
