The Corner

The Corner Dance Lab is based around a basic philosophy of utilising communication as a creative tool and provides access and opportunity for people with physical, sensory & learning impairment and Indigenous artists to extend their practice.

Last year’s Corner Dance Lab left a huge impression on everyone that was involved.  If you have the idea that dance goes beyond a series of steps or a technical exercise, then The Corner is for you! At The Corner we are all students together, learning and relearning in a beautiful environment, supporting and challenging our preconceptions with a fundamental desire to find out more about dance as a form of human expression. Gavin Webber (THE FARM)

For artists selected to develop their choreographic practice at THE CORNER, they will be mentored and assisted to realise the beginnings of their creative ideas. There will be an opportunity to show their work in progress to the local community on Saturday 23 January 2016.

Jasper’s Corner was an experience unlike any I had previously been involved in. To be in such a beautiful town, and to be able to work daily with such a huge array of individuals was incredibly eye-opening and gratifying as an artist. Having the opportunity to workshop ideas choreographically with Gavin Webber as a mentor was pivotal in the creation of Sean Marc’s and my work “No Fungus No Tree”, which was awarded Best Choreography at the 2014 Short Sweet and Dance Festival. We were able to gain so much from working with artists from all facets of life and experience, enriching our choreographic practice. I came away from Jasper’s Corner feeling inspired, satisfied and very fortunate for the experience. It is a Lab that needs to be an annual event in Australia, and one I hope to be attending for years to come. Anna Healey, independent artist
